Fire Permits

International Fire Code on Open Burning

You must obtain a fire permit from  the Fire Department before lighting any open fire within the city limits of Waveland.  Your permit will indicate when and on which days you are permitted to light an open fire.

There are three classes of fires and permits:

Class No. 1 Contained Fire: Fire contained in a wire burner, metal drum, outdoor fireplace, etc., with a minimum distance of 15 feet from any structure.

Class No. 2 Open Fire: Safe area around fire with continual standby, (competent person), with a height of material not to exceed three (3) feet, and five (5) feet in diameter.  A garden hose on standby, with a minimum distance of 50 feet from any structure, with area cleared to prohibit spread within that 50 feet.

Class No. 3 Bonfire: Located on beach front, South of culvert extended into water at Jackson Marsh on South to City Limits. Burnable material not to exceed three (3) feet in height and five (5) feet in diameter.  There must be a competent person on standby. (BUCCANEER STATE PARK)

Section 307

Open Burning

 

            307.1 General

                A person shall not kindle or maintain or authorize to be kindled or maintained any open burning unless conducted                  and approved in accordance with this section.

               307.2 Permits Required

               A permit shall be obtained from the code official in accordance with section 105.6 prior to kindling a fire for                  recognized silvicutural or range or wildlife management practices, prevention or control of disease or pests, or a                  bonfire. Application for such approval shall only be presented by and permits issued to the owner of the land upon                  which the fires are to be kindled.
